Shrub growing wider than tall, reaching 0.6 – 1.0m in height
Flowers: Trusses of 2-3 funnel shaped, single, 5 lobed flowers; 25mm long x 30mm wide, vivid purplish red with slight dorsal spotting of strong purplish red on the dorsal lobe

Foliage: Evergreen, dimorphic. Leaves are oblanceolate, glossy green, up to 25mm long x 13mm wide, upper surface lightly covered with adpressed hairs; bristle-toothed margins
Other Information: This is a naturally occurring Kurume azalea hybrid, known in Japan since the mid-19th Century. Introduced by E H Wilson with the Wilson 50 collection of azaleas and treated by Wilson as, the single flowered form of “obtusum f. amoenum”. Commercially available
